Town Hall

Constructed circa 1858, the New Amsterdam Town Hall is located on Strand Street, New Amsterdam. It addition to housing the office of the Town Council, it also houses the New Amsterdam market below. The building is described as having Tudor influences, a typical example of Guyana’s timber architecture. Originally, the Town Hall had a 75-foot high tower with a widow’s walk on the roof that provided an unimpeded sea view. Tower has since been demolished on June 10th, 2012 to facilitate repairs.
